THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MAKES ALL THINGS POSSIBLE
The Responsorial Psalm today is about the Easter stone. Stones are most often mentioned in the Bible as implements of savage execution. But even the maligned stone gets redemption in the new life of Easter.
The women walking towards the tomb in darkness were apprehensive about the huge stone that might block their access to the dead body of their loved one. Yet even this awkward bulwark tripped lightly back in obeisance to the divine power bursting forth from the grave. All of creation is redeemed.
When Peter preached the stupendous news of the resurrection, he took up the image of the stone, once rejected by the builders, now being chosen as the cornerstone holding everything together. The humble stone is no longer the symbol of death. In the rising of Christ all things are possible.
