A practical programme for lent might aim at better listening…. To God, to others and to our inner selves. We might need to fast from compulsive radio and obsessive television; reading newspapers at meals; being too busy for family; living in the fast lane; chattering on the mobile. To listen with attention is the first step in loving.
Give your mind the gift of silence. Time with Scripture each day shows a desire to listen to God.
Are there any edifying magazines or papers coming into your house?
‘God our Father, help us to hear your son. Enlighten us with your word, that we might find the way to your glory.’ (opening prayer)
Abraham, the model of faith’s journey, was called by God to leave the security of country, family and home. Peter could not stay at the heights of divine encounter.
God calls us to move on, to be open to change, to let go… of comforts, of hurts, of loved ones who have departed. A pilgrim moves forward. The transfiguration is a glimpse of future. And it is glorious.
